In private practice since 2006, Carrie Nowell, PsyD works with adolescents and adults and specializes in life transitions. With influences from psychodynamic, existential, and attachment based orientations, as well as cognitive and behavioral interventions.

Dr. Nowell believes therapy should be an empathetic, flexible process designed to meet the needs of the client. Therefore, she tends to focus on relationship issues, family dynamics, and coping mechanisms while attempting to reveal the personal strengths that lead to successful life engagement. Concerned with immediate relief but also focused on deeper change, Dr. Nowell works in short and long term interventions in order to increase functional capacities and address personality dynamics. Additionally, she provides psychological testing for adolescents and adults with a focus on ADHD evaluation, differential diagnosis, and personality assessment.

Dr. Nowell received her Bachelor's of Science Degree from George Mason University and her Doctorate in Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. She completed her internship and residency at New Lifestyles, Inc, a intensive treatment program for young adults in Winchester, VA. Dr. Nowell began her career in 1995 working with individuals diagnosed with severe mental and physical illnesses. She went on to obtain experience with crisis intervention, substance abuse, and home based services.
