Marie Desjardins is a licensed clinical social worker who has been working in the mental health field since 1997. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from George Mason University in 1992 and her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997. Her graduate internships were completed at the Blue Ridge Hospice and the Child Development Clinic, both in Winchester, Virginia. She has been a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) since 1996. Her clinical experience includes providing mental health and substance abuse services to children, adolescents, and adults primarily in community mental health and public school settings and she has also worked as a psychotherapist in private outpatient clinics since 2006.


Marie’s treatment approach combines a variety of modalities including solution-focused and strength based strategies, cognitive-behavioral and motivational interviewing techniques, and family systems and communication theory, which she tailors to fit each individual client in their unique situation. Marie believes that communication issues are at the heart of many psychosocial problems and improving communication is often a key part of her treatment recommendations. Her therapeutic approach includes offering education, guidance, and support to assist her clients to make well informed decisions for themselves and productive changes in their lives. Marie works with adults, adolescents, and children age nine or above and provides individual, couple and family therapy. She works with clients experiencing a variety of issues including mood and anxiety disorders, grief and loss issues, behavioral challenges including parenting education, and relationship problems.
