For over twenty years Russ has focused his professional energies on helping individuals, families and relationship partners find positive and productive ways to work through a host of issues. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist here in Virginia, he has worked with countless couples, families and individuals both in the context of his private practice, as a senior clinician and treatment team member in a community mental health center, and as a clinical administrator for a psychiatric residential treatment center for children and adolescents. Also as a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, he has provided supervision for clinicians working toward licensure in Virginia and has also provided consultation to licensed professionals seeking to hone their skills in working with couples and families.

Russ holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in Marriage and Family from Palmer Theological Seminary. He has had advanced training in Emotion Focused Couple's Therapy and in the Collaborative Problem Solving approach for working with adolescents and their parents.

Russ approaches treatment from a relational perspective, even when working with individuals. He believes that it is through the power of positive connections that we find the strength and wisdom to meet life's challenges. He draws on his experience using Emotion Focused Therapy as well as other family systems based interventions. In his work with parents and adolescents, Russ likes to take a coaching approach using the Collaborative Problem Solving model to help adolescents and their parents learn new ways to solve their problems together.

Russ works with clients experiencing a variety of issues including mood and anxiety disorders, couples and family relationship problems, and behavioral challenges including parent coaching.
