If you are going through a difficult time, I would like to help you. From your first appointment, I work to build a strong therapeutic relationship by providing a safe, accepting, and supportive atmosphere to work with those seeking therapy for coping with difficult emotions such as depression, anxiety, or persistent negative thoughts. I also enjoy working with couples to improve communication and family relationship issues. I also help clients improve parenting strategies, better manage stress, or begin healing from loss. I use your strengths as part of a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Comfortable with many therapeutic models, I use the best treatment approach for you, and when indicated, your family may be incorporated in the treatment process.
Medication management, including monitoring medication effectiveness and side effects, is part of the holistic methods I use for clients 14 and older. However, I consider non-pharmacological interventions such as individual therapy, group therapy, proper nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management essential components of successful mental health treatment. Chronic illness and its impact on the individual, couple, and family has been a focus of my professional practice. I am part of a larger practice of experienced professionals, and together, we can offer you referrals to colleagues to meet your unique needs. I offer Christian counseling services if your faith is important to you and you want this to be part of your counseling process.
I graduated from Wesley School of Nursing in 1978, received the following degrees from Wichita State University – Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (1981), Master of Nursing in Diabetes Education and Treatment (1985), Master of Nursing in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (1993), and Psychiatric Mental Health post-master’s degree from the University of Virginia in 2013. I am a certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and licensed as a Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner through the Virginia Board of Nursing. I have also been a Certified Diabetes Educator through the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators since 1986. I am an active member of Sigma Theta Tau, a national nursing honor society. Originally from the Mid-West, our family has been Loudoun County residents since 2003.
