Michelle is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist. She received her Master of Science in Art Therapy and Counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School. Michelle has over six years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. Her areas of interest include treating individuals with mood disorders, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and post-traumatic stress disorder. She is open to working with children, adolescents and adults and is always honored to be a part of an individual’s recovery journey.

Michelle provides art therapy services as an option for individuals who are interested in creative self-expression. Art therapy is a unique form of psychotherapy focused on art production and the creative process that helps to break down barriers that may be standing in the way of one’s success. Art therapy can help individuals tap into their subconscious mind to access and process latent memories, as well as aid in emotional self-expression. It is Michelle’s belief that art therapy can be beneficial to anyone looking to process through creative means, regardless of their artistic talent or ability. By externalizing problems through tangible and visual means, individuals can experience a cathartic release through art production. Michelle specifically tailors art experiences to address the individual’s unique challenges and mental health needs, providing an opportunity for increased self-awareness through a creative lens.

Through verbal therapy, Michelle assists individuals in identifying the obstacles they’re facing. She tends to work from an integrative approach of person-centered, solution-focused and humanistic approaches, operating as though the individual is the real agent of change in their own life. She helps individuals create concrete, achievable plans to address and overcome life’s challenges. In doing so, it is her hope that individuals develop the skills to cope more independently and develop the self-esteem, self-awareness and ultimately, self-reliance to transform their lives for the better.
