Paula Domenici, PhD, has been working as psychologist for over 15 years and specializes in trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and military psychology. She uses a short-term, evidence-based approach to treat PTSD called Prolonged Exposure Therapy that is highly effective for many types of trauma and takes approximately 10 sessions. This gold standard treatment incorporates cognitive-behavioral strategies to help clients process their traumatic experiences so trauma triggers and memories no longer overwhelm them.

Dr. Domenici has provided therapy to military-connected clients coping with stress and mental health issues related to deployment, combat, and reintegrating to civilian life. Additionally, she trains clinicians to provide high quality care to individuals who have served our country on Prolonged Exposure Therapy, sleep problems, moral injury and other topics. She has co-authored two self-help books for military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families.

After completing her master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1995, Dr. Domenici received her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2002. She likes biking, tennis, dogs, traveling, and meeting people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. She is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and has enjoyed living in different places including Paris, Tokyo, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.
